Our client is a private credit institution operating under the European Union banking regulatory framework. They are licensed and regulated by the MFSA to operate outside Malta and offer two main lines of products, card/store value and micro-lending.
An opportunity has arisen for an energetic individual to work alongside the Risk and Compliance Chief Officer as Legal Counsel. Responsibilities include:
Advising the company on a range of legal issues, including on contract law, regulatory matters, data privacy and other day-to-day issues
Reviewing agreements and legal notices
Identifying legal risks
Liaising with external legal counsel across EU jurisdictions
Attending to Data Privacy related requests from customers
Assisting local authorities with investigations and preparing information reports
Assisting in the customer due diligence processes and ongoing monitoring of business relationships
Assisting in the formulation and maintenance of policies and procedures
LLM from a reputable European university
Thorough knowledge of Maltese law
Working knowledge of contract law, data privacy, and banking legislation
Minimum of one-year experience in a financial services environment
Strong organizational abilities
Ability to thrive under pressure
Ability to provide quick, practical and concise advice in line with the business objectives
Ability to solve issues efficiently and effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in using MS Office applications
Thorough, meticulous, attentive to detail
