Relocating to Malta - Useful Information for Prospective Candidates

31 Jul 2017 Latest News Written by: Cutajar, David

Malta is a charming little island well known for its stunning environment, beaches and friendly locals. Besides the attractive climate, Malta offers many golden opportunities for candidates (EU or International) who wish to come to Malta - especially given the success of flourishing industries such as gaming and financial services. Over the next few weeks, we will be publishing a series of useful tips to aid candidates in relocating to Malta:

First off, the weather.

Malta is known for its warm, sunny climate; however, it can get windy and wet during the winter months. This means it’s important to have both Summer and Winter clothes if you intend to stay, waterproofs and rain jackets included.

Malta boasts around 300 days of sunshine a year and it gets very intense in summer, with temperatures sometimes feeling around 40°C!

So, it is wise to stock up on sunblock (and swim suits too). It is also recommended that you avoid the Midday sun since UV rays get pretty intenseso, tan carefully! The heat can become overwhelming for most so looking for places with an AC is ideal!

Winters in Malta are usually wet and windy. Even though it does not snow here, it can get pretty chilly. Central heating is not too common and usually many people resort to utilising gas or electric heaters to warm up their homes. Most homes do not have central heating since it is quite the expense, so keep this in mind if you plan to stay here during these months. An air conditioner could be set on heating and de humidifying to reduce humidity and warm up specific rooms. That being said, a thick duvet and comfy PJ's should have you covered.

Malta really only has two seasons; Winter and Summer. Spring and Autumn are relatively very brief and the weather is not intense at all, averaging around 15-20°C during these periods. No need for elaborate attire during these months, just enjoy the lovely weather!

Next week we will be discussing the use of Language in Malta, so stay tuned!
